Q & A

CFCC ACFR DIVISION

A
  • 2002 was the first year it was installed in Japan. Since then, more than 10 years of satisfactory operation have passed.
A
  • This depends on transmission owner's decision. Annealed aluminum wire has advantages in terms of conductivity and available temperature, although hard-drawn and TAL wire have advantages with regard to installation work.
A
  • That depends on the design of the ACFR, because it is related to the tension balance between the aluminum wire and the CFCC core. The average temperature is 100 degrees.
A
  • Round aluminum wire is available for ACFR. If better sag performance is required, round aluminum wire is better, but there is the disadvantage of transmission loss compared to trapezoidal aluminum wire.
A
  • Yes, if the design conditions and target criteria are provided, we can propose an ACFR design.
A
  • The standard length is 7,200 meters, depending on the core size. This length is related to the carbon fiber filament length.
A
  • The average lead time is one month on an ex-factory basis, depending on the manufacturing situation and order volume.
A
  • The CFCC core is produced in Japan and the USA.

CFCC CIVIL ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION DIVISION

A
  • CFCC stands for Carbon Fiber Composite Cable, developed through our new composite technology utilizing carbon fibers and thermosetting resins, by forming into a stranded shape cable.
A
  • CFCC exhibits superior features of carbon fiber in its characteristics that no other cable can; high tensile strength, high tensile modulus, light weight, high corrosion resistance, non magnetic interact, and low linear expansion rate. Also its stranded construction enables easy handling because the cable canbe coiled on a reel, and a reel can accommodate a kilometer-long cable.
A
  • It is about 3,800 ft (1,160m) per reel.
A
  • Conventional terminal fixers cannot be used for CFCC cable-end. Special terminal fixers are needed for CFCC; WS type for pre-tensioning and ES/EM type for post-tensioning. While ES/EM type terminal fixers are attached at Tokyo Rope International factory, WS types are attached at site. For further information, please contact us from our inquiry form.
A
  • CFCC is manufactured at Gamagori factory and Kitakami factory in Japan and Tokyo Rope USA Canton factory in Michigan.
A
  • CFCC stirrup can not be fabricated at a precaster's plant, but needs to be fabricated at our plant.
A
  • Depending on the location where PO is coming from as well as the factory's operation, it generally takes a few weeks for Canton factory to ship the CFCC products to the customer in the United States.
A
  • We have 25 projects in the United States.
A
  • In the design, we recommend that the design company will follow the guide specification by Michigan DOT, Florida DOT, Virginia DOT and AASHTO.

ENGINEERING DIVISION

A
  • Altogether, we have provided about 500,000㎡ of slope disaster prevention systems outside Japan, most of which in Russia and Kazakhstan. Recently the number of installations are increasing in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Philippines.
A
  • In Japan they are mainly manufactured inIbaraki, Osaka, and Fukuoka areas. Outside Japan we have production plants in Russia and Kazakhstan as well.
A
  • After an organization (private or public) provides a purchase order to a constructor, Tokyo Rope may either introduce a skilled company that can install our products to the site, or hold a training program for the constructor, and proceed the construction accordingly to the technical documents created in Japan with greatest care and precision. Most importantly, the construction needs to be proceeded with safety and efficiency under the supervision of quality and operation management technologies that have been improved through Japan's strict management practices.
A
  • By introducing appropriate systems and cooperating in designs with the library of technological documents created through our 50 years experience, Tokyo Rope can make a proposal with the most functional yet economical countermeasure plans.
